WILTON Wilton's Republicans are relishing the prospect that there could be two Wilton residents elected to state seats this November.
"It really gives Wilton a seat at the table up in Hartford, which we really haven't had," said Chairman on the Republican Town Committee Al Alper about the prospect of Wilton Republicans Toni Boucher and Susan Bruschi getting elected in November's election.
Local Republicans are gathering next week to nominate candidates for the state house.
The first nomination will be for state senator, as Boucher, R-143, seeks to make the leap from the House of Representatives to the Senate in Hartford. Westport's Judith A. Freedman, R-26, announced she is not seeking re-election after serving for 22 years. She backed Boucher to succeed her.
Boucher, a Wilton resident, is the only declared candidate.
The district includes Wilton, Ridgefield, Redding, Westport, Bethel and parts of New Canaan and Weston.
That occurs Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at King's Highway Elementary School on the Post Road in Westport.
Wilton's Second Selectman Susan Bruschi is stepping up to succeed Boucher as the Republican representative for District 143.
The nomination meeting for that will be Thursday, May 15, at Wilton Town Hall. Bruschi is the only declared candidate.
District 143 is composed of Wilton and a sliver of Norwalk running along the Westport town line. A small section of southwest Wilton is in Republican State Rep. John Hetherington's District 125 which includes most of New Canaan.
