The event will begin at approximately 2 p.m. and lasting until 7 a.m. the next morning.
Relay for Life activities will also include a bounce house, crafts, face painting, flower pot decorating, and a Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, enabling people a chance to donate their hair to make wigs for cancer patients.
Sheridan Finnie and Kathryn Saphire, both Wilton High School sophomores, will host the second annual Beautiful Lengths hair cutting event. It will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. during the course of the relay. Wilton's Triloma Day Spa has again donated its services for the program, with its employees cutting the ponytails at the event. For a small donation to the American Cancer Society, Triloma Day Spa will also offer participants a professional styling at its salon the next day.
Those interested in donating their hair for the cause must heed the following requirements: participants must be able to donate at least 8 inches of hair; their hair may not be chemically treated; their hair may not be more than 5 percent grey; and participants must come with their hair freshly washed, dried, and without product.
Those not ready to cut their hair during the event can log onto www.beautifullengths.com to pledge to get their hair cut later.
Relay for Life first started in Tacoma, Wash. in 1985, when Dr. Gordy Klat, a colorectal surgeon, wanted to raise money for the American Cancer Society. He walked around the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound and logged over 83 miles to raise $27,000. Relay for Life is now the largest fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, raising $405 million in 2007.
