Special Events





* Friday, June 6 — opening Reception for exhibit, "Behind the Blossoms: Six Views of Botanical Art," from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The botanical artists, all instructors at The New York Botanical Gardens, represent well more than 100 years experience in interpreting nature and have spent countless hours creating detailed representations of plant life. The artists are Carol E. Hamilton (Wilton), Lauretta Jones (Purdys, NY), Kathie K. Miranda (Shelton), Dick Rauh, Ph.D (Wilton), Louisa Rawle Tiné (South Salem, NY) and the late Eleanor Wunderlich (Ossining, NY). The exhibit runs through Saturday, June 28.

* Sunday, June 8 — Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room, Taylor Eigsti, from 5 to 7 p.m. The two-time Grammy award nominee, Taylor Eigsti, returns to Wilton Library's jazz series. The 22-year-old pianist/composer/bandleader's sound is rooted in jazz history, but it also incorporates the progressive jazz sound of the 21st century. Reception following the show. Funded by William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. Advance registration is strongly recommended and pre-registrants must arrive by 4:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating. After 4:50 p.m., and if space is available, wait-listed and walk-in registrants will be admitted. Suggested donation — $10. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events.

* Sunday, June 15 — Wilton Library Association's Friends of the Library 113th Annual Meeting at 4 p.m. General meeting and election of officers; presentation by architect Frederick Noyes, son of the late Eliot Noyes, original architect for which the library's new expansion is based. His talk will encompass modernism architecture. There will also be an announcement about the Wilton Reads! program, and a limited supply of free books will be distributed. Reception after the meeting. The meeting is open to the public. Call library for details.

* Sunday, June 15 — Library closes at 4 p.m. for the Wilton Library Association's Friends of the Library Annual Meeting.

* Tuesday, June 10 — hands-on computer classes: Intermediate PowerPoint, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Participants learn to add and format charts and graphs in a presentation. Basic computer skills, including mouse proficiency, required. There's no charge for program. Advance registration is required. The class is limited to 10 students. Participants are asked to arrive on time. Students will not be allowed in 10 minutes after the start of class. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events.

* Thursday, June 12 — hands-on computer classes: Intermediate PowerPoint, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. (see description above). To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events.

* Thursday, June 12 — Introduction to Tango and Swing with Sharyn Berman, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Come for a fun evening of dance — no experience or partner required. Taught by Master Instructor, Sharyn Berman, who says she hopes to "inspire playfulness, confidence, and the building of strong relationships through the dynamics of partner dance." Dress comfortably — leather soled shoes preferable. No charge. Reservations recommended. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events.

* Friday, June, 13 and Saturday, June 14 — drop-in Father's Day craft. Children of all ages can drop by during library hours for a Father's Day-themed craft. Materials supplied by library. Sample provided for children to follow. No charge and no reservation required.

* Tuesday, June 17 — Fades to Gray Teen Band Concert, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Local teen band "Fades to Gray" will play classic rock tunes. Members include: Greg Golterman, Will Boudreau, Devon Jeffries, John Liebowitz and Jeff Liebowitz. No charge. Refreshments will be served. Open to teens and all those who love classic rock tunes.
